# Epsilos and alternatives
> How Epsilos compares to other e-commerce and website platforms (Shopify, Wix, WooCommerce, İkas, İdeasoft), with a feature comparison table and a checklist to choose.
Epsilos is one of several good ways to run an online store or a corporate website. This page explains where it fits among the common alternatives and gives you a checklist to decide. The right platform depends on your products, your team and where you sell. Try any shortlist with a demo before committing.
## Global platforms
[Section titled “Global platforms”](#global-platforms)
| Platform | In short |
| --------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **Shopify** | The global e-commerce leader, with the largest third-party app ecosystem. Strongest for businesses selling internationally or needing many niche integrations. Managed / hosted; subscription plus transaction fees unless you use its own payments. |
| **Wix** | A global website builder with e-commerce add-ons. Strong for content and marketing sites; lighter for large or complex catalogs. Managed / hosted. |
| **WooCommerce** | An open-source plugin for WordPress. Maximum flexibility and no platform lock-in, but **self-hosted**: you (or an agency) manage hosting, updates, security and backups. |
## Regional platforms
[Section titled “Regional platforms”](#regional-platforms)
| Platform | In short |
| ------------ | ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| **İkas** | A managed e-commerce platform with a modern admin and a growing feature set, focused on online retail. |
| **İdeasoft** | An established e-commerce platform with a deep retail feature set, a dedicated e-export offering, a first-party add-on marketplace and a long track record. |

## Where Epsilos fits
[Section titled “Where Epsilos fits”](#where-epsilos-fits)
* **Managed *or* self-hosted.** Run it fully managed by Epsilos, or on partner data centers or your own servers through the licence system. Few platforms give you both.
* **One platform for a store *and* a corporate site.** Same panel, same themes, no second system to run.
* **Visual, live page design.** Build pages by drag-and-drop directly on the site with 35+ modules, rather than filling a fixed template.
* **Global from the start.** Multi-language, multi-currency, live exchange rates and regional payment gateways for cross-border and export commerce.
* **B2B and wholesale** built in, alongside B2C.
* **Vertical modules.** Hotel booking, real-estate listings, QR menu, e-invoicing and more through the [add-on marketplace](https://market.epsilos.com).
* **Open ecosystem.** Independent designers and developers can publish and sell themes and add-ons, and resellers can build a business on top of Epsilos. Some regional platforms keep their add-on marketplace first-party only.
## Where another platform may fit better
[Section titled “Where another platform may fit better”](#where-another-platform-may-fit-better)
* **You need an open-source core.** Code you can run without a licence and modify or redistribute freely. Epsilos is a commercial, licensed platform; for that requirement, WooCommerce or another open-source stack is the right choice.
Cross-border selling is **not** a reason to look elsewhere: Epsilos already supports multi-language, multi-currency and global payment options, and it can also run on your own infrastructure.
## How to choose: a checklist
[Section titled “How to choose: a checklist”](#how-to-choose-a-checklist)
1. **Scope:** only a store, only a site, or both?
2. **Where you sell:** one market, or many markets and currencies?
3. **Design control:** template-based, or hands-on visual layout?
4. **Catalog:** simple, or many variants and bulk import?
5. **Hosting:** fully managed, self-hosted, or partner-hosted?
6. **Model:** B2C, B2B, or both?
7. **Special needs:** a vertical module (hotel, real estate, restaurant)?
8. **Total cost:** subscription + payment fees + any add-ons.
Shortlist two or three, then run a demo of each with your own products.

# Frequently asked questions
> The most common questions about Epsilos: hosting, domains, data ownership, payments, support and more.
## Is Epsilos a SaaS platform?
[Section titled “Is Epsilos a SaaS platform?”](#is-epsilos-a-saas-platform)
Yes. With the standard e-commerce and ready website packages, Epsilos is a fully managed service: hosting, servers, updates and backups are on Epsilos; you manage your store and content from a browser-based panel.
## Can I install it on my own server?
[Section titled “Can I install it on my own server?”](#can-i-install-it-on-my-own-server)
The standard packages do not include installation on your own server; Epsilos handles hosting. Different models exist for enterprise and reseller scenarios: contact the sales team.
## Can I use my own domain?
[Section titled “Can I use my own domain?”](#can-i-use-my-own-domain)
Yes. You can connect your existing domain or register a new one through Epsilos.
## Do I own my data?
[Section titled “Do I own my data?”](#do-i-own-my-data)
Yes. Your content and data are yours and can be exported under the terms of your contract.
## Does my site depend on Epsilos being online?
[Section titled “Does my site depend on Epsilos being online?”](#does-my-site-depend-on-epsilos-being-online)
No. Your licence is validated locally on your own site: the licence key it holds is checked with a cryptographic signature, without contacting Epsilos on each request. If Epsilos’s infrastructure were unreachable, your site keeps running. With the managed packages hosting is on Epsilos anyway; this matters most when you run Epsilos on your own or a partner’s infrastructure.
## Can my licence be used on another site?
[Section titled “Can my licence be used on another site?”](#can-my-licence-be-used-on-another-site)
No. Your packages and add-ons are licensed to your domain. A licence key issued for one installation will not activate on a different domain, so your setup cannot be copied or resold.
## Does the licence expire?
[Section titled “Does the licence expire?”](#does-the-licence-expire)
A licence has a term and continues by renewal, like a subscription. With the managed packages Epsilos handles renewal; if you self-host, you enter the renewed licence key in the panel.
## Which payment methods are supported?
[Section titled “Which payment methods are supported?”](#which-payment-methods-are-supported)
Standard card schemes (Visa, Mastercard, American Express) plus regional payment gateways with installment support, and multi-currency pricing with live exchange rates. Available gateways depend on the markets you sell in.
## Do I need technical knowledge?
[Section titled “Do I need technical knowledge?”](#do-i-need-technical-knowledge)
No. All management is done from a visual panel. Pages are built with a drag-and-drop designer, no coding required.
## Can I change the theme later?
[Section titled “Can I change the theme later?”](#can-i-change-the-theme-later)
Yes. The active theme is switched instantly from the panel; your content and data are not affected.
## Can I try it first?
[Section titled “Can I try it first?”](#can-i-try-it-first)
Yes. You can open a free demo account and get a personalised presentation from the Epsilos team: [epsilos.com](https://www.epsilos.com).
## How is support provided?
[Section titled “How is support provided?”](#how-is-support-provided)
Email support () with a response time within 12 hours, plus live chat during business hours. Every account also gets a personalised onboarding presentation.
# AI tools
> In Epsilos, AI is not a chat box bolted onto the panel: the tools are built into the admin workflow. An agentic AI editor in the admin bar, content and SEO tools, and a multi-provider backend.
In Epsilos, AI is not a chat box stuck in the corner of the panel. The AI tools are built into the admin workflow and, where it matters most, they work **agentically**: they don’t just suggest text, they do the work.
## The AI editor in the admin bar (agentic)
[Section titled “The AI editor in the admin bar (agentic)”](#the-ai-editor-in-the-admin-bar-agentic)
Opened from the live editor bar, the AI editor **designs the front-end from your prompt and writes the result into the page’s header, footer and content areas itself**, no manual copy-paste.
* **Works with tools:** it reads the page’s zones, edits them, and writes to the theme CSS when needed.
* **Efficient by design:** the context that builds up from the first message (system instructions, page content, earlier steps) is **cached**, so each turn does not reprocess everything and pays only for what is new. Small changes use targeted text replacement instead of regenerating the whole page, and the agent does not re-read a zone it already wrote in the same session. Per-turn cost stays low and predictable.
* **Two modes:** a *Design* mode for structural changes, a *Content* mode for text only. Content mode redirects you to Design mode when a request is structural.
* **Draft → preview → publish:** every change accumulates in a draft first, is previewed with the real theme render, and is published on your approval.
* **Version history:** every publish is recorded in the content history tagged “AI Editor”; you can roll back at any time.
* **You stay in control:** a run shows live progress and can be stopped at any moment (an interrupted turn is never written to the site). Each turn shows an estimated token count and cost.
## Content and SEO tools
[Section titled “Content and SEO tools”](#content-and-seo-tools)
From the admin panel:
* Product and page description generation
* SEO title / description / keyword copy (with instructions specific to your business model)
* Competitor analysis
* Variant generation assistance
## Storefront AI assistant
[Section titled “Storefront AI assistant”](#storefront-ai-assistant)
Optionally, an AI assistant that helps visitors on the storefront can be enabled.
## Multi-provider backend
[Section titled “Multi-provider backend”](#multi-provider-backend)
Epsilos is not tied to a single AI provider. Gemini, OpenAI, Anthropic (Claude), Grok and Groq are supported; which tool uses which model is managed from settings. The agentic editor runs on Claude (Sonnet by default; Fable and Opus are also available).
## Purpose
[Section titled “Purpose”](#purpose)
AI’s job here is to remove repetitive work, not to replace the person. That is why every generation is **draft first**, then **approval**, then **reversible**. Cost is shown openly and the [changelog](/changelog) is public. The AI works with Epsilos’s **modernized architecture** (see [What is Epsilos?](/getting-started/what-is-epsilos)): CSS it produces is written to the theme as marked blocks, so the file does not bloat.
# Cross-border and e-export
> Sell internationally from one Epsilos store: multi-language, multi-currency, regional payment gateways, country and region settings, regional shipping and regional tax. Works for B2C and B2B.
Epsilos e-commerce packages include what is needed to sell across borders from a single store. There is no separate “export” edition.
## What is included
[Section titled “What is included”](#what-is-included)
* **Multi-language storefront and checkout.** Content, product data and the checkout flow per language, with automatic redirect by browser language and right-to-left (RTL) support.
* **Multi-currency pricing.** Prices shown and charged in the visitor’s currency with live exchange rates, or fixed per-market prices you set.
* **Regional payment gateways.** Connect the payment methods that matter in each market you sell to.
* **Country and region settings.** Control which countries you sell to and vary behaviour by region.
* **Regional shipping.** Carrier options and rates per destination.
* **Regional tax.** Tax rules and rates by country or region.
## B2C and B2B
[Section titled “B2C and B2B”](#b2c-and-b2b)
All of the above works the same for a **B2B storefront**: dealer and wholesale pricing, per-market currencies and payment methods, and region-specific catalogs.
